According to the AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) 2022 has been the warmest year in Spain since records have been made (1961) and is, at the same time, the third driest: up to September, has been recorded an average rainfall of 473 liters per square meter, which is 26% less than the normal value (635 liters per square meter).
There is a lot of scientific evidence that droughts are one of the extreme natural phenomena that are directly related to climate change, since the increase in temperatures alters the water cycles, causes less precipitation and accelerates the evaporation of reserves.
The reservoirs in Cataluña are now around 30% of water capacity and this situation is seriously affecting the environment, the biodiversity, and the economy.
